Manovikas Convent Rajabadi, Bethna

"Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of these least of my brethren you did it (Mt.25:40)"

The exploited and abandoned women, children and elderly persons, the deaf and dumb deserve our special care and compassion. The Manovikas school at Rajabadi, Bethna is the centenary Memorial institution of the SABS. It is situated at Rajabadi village Bethna, which is a remote village in Baripada in the diocese of Balasore in Odisha. The sisters of Pavitrathma Province have extended their service through different apostolates in various places of the Balasore diocese. Indeed, it was a felt need of the locality and the earnest desire of the sisters to open an institution for the mentally challenged and the deaf and dumb in this area.

The sprouting of the Manovikas School

To study the situation of the area a survey was done and it found that the number of children with disabilities was very high and the girl children were neglected and exploited. So, the provincial council decided to purchase a plot of four acres of land from the congregation of Mission (CM) Baripada at a nominal price for constructing a temporary building. A very small house with a room was already existing. Along with that we constructed two more rooms for our stay and other essential arrangements were made soon. It was blessed on 2 June 2008 at 10.30 am by Rt. Rev. Bishop Thomas Thiruthalil. The institution started with nine children. The first members of the community were Sr. Tesina Pathil as Superior, Sr. Sophy Maria Naduthala and Sr. Jaisy Prakuzhy.

The target of the special School

The main objective of this institution is the rehabilitation of mentally challenged children to provide opportunities to bring them into the mainstream of life. Our focus of the special education program is to facilitate access to an appropriate education regardless of the disability to help the students to achieve academic excellence and self-sufficiency through vocational training.
